CYHA Board of Directors Realignment

CYHA Board of Directors Seek Realignment for 2010-2011 Season

Recently the CYHA Board of Directors voted to amend their bylaws and to reduce the number of Officers serving on the Board. The number of board positions was expanded several years ago to accommodate the merging of LHA and HCOC back into one organization. In an effort to insure that the house and travel programs had equal say in changes that were made the hockey program an equal number of directors consisting of house members at large were added along with a representative member of each travel team.

Over the years we have found it to be increasingly difficult, to keep the house member at large positions filled, as well as conducting business efficiently due to the large number of directors. The Board has seen many changes since the merger, as travel programs were worked back into the CYHA hockey program. Last summer the Board of Directors selected a Player Development Committee that was tasked with developing a fully integrated hockey program that would provide a structured hockey program that was designed to promote the development of the players in the association. This new program was approved and implemented by the Board of Directors this season. Although the plan was not perfect, it proved to be a great starting point for improving the hockey experience in Charleston. That being said it became evident that if the program continued to operate under the newly developed hockey structure the Board of Directors could focus on the administrative tasks of running an association. Having seen the success of using the Player Development Committee, and the other various committees to handle the specific needs of the association it became apparent that the larger board structure was no longer needed.

The Board of Directors with the use of committees will now be able to focus on the more important aspects of growing the hockey association. This concept of working through committees will allow more members to volunteer and participate in committees that will focus on the day to day happening of the association.

The CYHA committees are listed below:

Fundraising Committee

Player Development Committee

House/Rec Committee

Travel Committee

Grievance/Disciplinary Committee

Scholarship Committee

Tournament Committee
