Squirts are Showdown Champions!!

The Squirts continued their winning trend by winning their last 8 games and 11 of their last 12.  They travelled to Nashville, Tenn after being crowned CHL Champions and it was apparent that they still had that winning drive.  They opened by putting out the Atlanta Fire 5-2.  Next they faced the locals, A-game Polar Bears, and beat them with a score of 4-2, although the game was controlled mainly by the Wolverines.  Next came the battle for the 1 seed.  The Kennesaw Jr. Thrashers came out to play a physical game, hoping their size advantage would deter the Wolverines.  It was a battle down to the end with the Wolverines grinding out a tough 3-2, securing the 1 seed for the finals.  The finals was a rematch with the fiesty Jr. Thrashers.  It was clear that they were out for blood and were going to use thier size to get it.  Our speed quickly had us out to a lead on a opening shift break away that Nathaniel snuck through the legs of thier goaltender and into the back of the net.  The Jr. Thrashers frustration soon mounted and lead to the Wolverines being on the powerplay for most of the 2nd period.  The Wolverines made no mistake and tallied 2 powerplay goals.  Heading into the third with a 3-0 lead, the Jr. Thrashers clung on for thier tournament life.  Now trailing 4-0 with under a minute to play in the game, the Jr. Thrashers were finally able to light the lamp.  Determined to make sure the Jr. Thrashers knew that goal was a fluke, the Wolverines, with all of their last year squirts on the ice, tallied 2 goals in the final 56 seconds of the game!  What a way to cap off a great season.  GREAT JOB SQUIRTS!!!!!
